Taquanda Dixon is a dedicated professional with a strong background in community support services. With over 20 years of experience in the field, she has made a significant impact on the lives of individuals in the ID (Intellectual Disabilities) community.
Dixon’s career in Human Services began as a parole/probation agent for the state of Arkansas. However, her passion for helping the marginalized and diverse communities led her to transition into the Intellectual Disability field. She has held several leadership positions, starting as a residential director, then as a program director over day program services, and currently as the Director of Community Support Services at Melwood, where she oversees the operational programming and supports for people with intellectual disabilities for various departments.
Dixon educational background is equally impressive. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Sociology, a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Social Science Health Studies, and a Specialization in Health and Humanities, all from Michigan State University. Additionally, she obtained a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Counseling/Therapy and a Graduate Certificate in Contemporary Theory in Couple and Family Systems from Capella University. Dixon currently holds her license as a Graduate Marriage and Family Counselor.
To further enhance her professional skills, Dixon has pursued certifications in various areas. She is certified in Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators (ACRE) training and Motivational Interviewing. She has also been certified as a Level One Investigator through Labor Relations Alternatives, INC.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dixon actively contributes to the community. She serves as the treasurer of the Northern Virginia Joint Training Coalition and is a member of the Charles County Commission for Individuals with Disabilities Committee.
